How to read the numbers
The first 48 hours decide a lot for an animal. Do the same steps for every animal, in the same order.
Day one
Scan for a microchip and note the result
Take clear photos from the front and side
Add the animal on the Animals table with its intake date
Book the intake vet exam
Place with a foster that has room and the right setup
Within a week
Write a short, honest behavior note after the first days in foster.
Update the weight and any medicine given.
Move to Ready for adoption only after vet clearance and a photo update.
A good adoption is a good match, not a fast one. The process is there to protect the animal and the adopter.
Steps
Read the application and call two references.
Check the home type and any rental permission.
Set up a meet-and-greet, including other dogs in the home when relevant.
Press Mark approved, then complete the contract and fee.
Press Mark adopted on the animal and call the adopter after one week.
If the answer is no
Explain kindly and offer another animal that fits better. Never say it is because of who they are; say what the animal needs.
Fosters are the rescue. Make their work easier and they will stay for years.
Welcome basics
Give every foster a one-page guide: feeding, medicine, who to call and what counts as an emergency.
Ask them to send a photo and note each week.
Call within a day of every new placement.
